Annotation

The N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA-R) controls synaptic plasticity and mediates memory formation, and its dysfunction is implicated in schizophrenia. Profiling ion channel receptor alterations helps to elucidate the biological substrate of brain impairments and enables personalized treatment strategies. The EU-funded NMDAR-DCM project aims to develop a robust and translational dynamic causal model (DCM) for profiling NMDA-R dynamics and investigating NMDA-R dysfunction during a longitudinal study of a large cohort of schizophrenia patients. The strategy will initially be developed and validated on data obtained in animals with a high signal-to-noise ratio. Final validation of the model will be performed in schizophrenic patients. The developed approach will help clinicians predict outcomes and tailor treatment to individual patients.
