David Kolář is a young physiologist working at the Sleep and Chronobiology Research centre of the National Institute of Mental Health as a research scientist. He graduated with a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Science of the Charles University in Prague in Physiology, where his research career started and where he had also worked for several years before he started working at NIMH. At the Sleep and Chronobiology Research Centre, he participates in research on inter-regulation of metabolism and circadian system. Simultaneously, he also participates at the Pre-clinal Research Programme of NIMH in the field of schizophrenia and animal models validation, including the genetically modified strains, which is conducted with the collaboration with the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. His primary focus lies within the role of general metabolic pathways with an emphasis on mitochondrial physiology, cellular and tissue respiratory rates, imbalance between respiratory rates, oxidative damage, and the capacity of the antioxidant system. He is also the author or co-author of several peer-reviewed research publications.
